I have had quite a few people ask me for the recipe to my apple and cinnamon crumble photo that I posted on instagram.
I got the idea from a fellow student dietitian Cameron McLean.
While the ingredients were all thrown together, I attempted to quantify them so you can all give the recipe a try! So feel free to add a little more of one ingredient and a little less of another…
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Baking time: 35-45 minutes
Makes: 6-8 serves
1 big can of sliced apples – pie fruit (or 4 granny smith apples, sliced)
2 teaspoons of cinnamon
½ cup of rolled oats (alternative: quinoa flakes)
1/3 cup wholemeal flour
1/3 cup brown sugar
A small sprinkle of breadcrumbs (or more brown sugar)
30g (1.5 tablespoons) butter/margarine, melted (I used Nuttelex)
1. Line a 15 x 25cm oven-proof dish (or similar size) with baking paper (or lightly spray with canola oil).
2. Place apple slices in the dish.
3. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, oats and cinnamon.
4. Place flour/oat mixture on top of the apples evenly.
5. Sprinkle some breadcrumbs or a little brown sugar on top of the crumble.
6. Pour melted butter over the top of the crumble.
7. Bake in oven for 30 minutes.
8. For another 10 or so minutes, turn the grill option of your oven on to brown the top. If you do not have the grill option, bake for another 15 minutes.
9. Serve with low-fat pouring custard, vanilla yoghurt, or ice cream!
